A new route by Qatar Airways now takes the title for the World's longest route and also the World's longest Flight.

After a 16 hour journey from Doha, Qatar Airways flight 920 touched down at Auckland Airport this morning, welcomed with a water salute in the early morning sun. Look at those beautiful vortices and wing condensation on touchdown!

This route has now taken the title of the world’s longest route. The return flight, at 17 hours 30 minutes, will be the longest flight in the world. The Boeing 777-200LR operating the round trip flight between Doha and Auckland covers 29,066 kilometers.

But what about Air India? Well, Air India's Delhi-San Francisco flight is the world's longest by distance, but according to the 'Great Circle' route Doha and Auckland are further apart on the surface of the Earth. Tailwinds mean Air India's flight time is less than 17 hours.
