Qatar Airways QR34 Birmingham (BHX) - Doha (DOH) Business Class Boeing B787-8 Dreamliner
This is a report of my Qatar Airways Flight QR34 from Birmingham (BHX) to the Hamad International Airport (DOH) of Doha, Qatar. This is the first part of my journey to Singapore. Qatar Airways currently operates one flight a day from Birmingham Airport, departing at 15:20 or 07:50 (16:20 or 08:15 in the summer) depending on the weekday. They are one of two Oneworld airlines serving the airport (The other is Iberia). I would recommend taking the afternoon flights when heading to East/Southeast Asia to minimise the transfer time at Doha. The Boeing B787 Dreamliner is used for this flight, making it the first time I have rode on such a plane.

Qatar Airways, like most other airlines uses the No. 1 Lounge at Birmingham Airport. Emirates is the only airline with its own designated lounge there. However, the No.1 Lounge is still of reasonable quality and has a high internet speed.

The flight took about 6 and a half hours, allowing time for one meal. The Qatar Airways Business Class is a big eye opener in that you have a much larger TV screen for the entertainment system, the staff are more attentive in general and you get to dine on demand, i.e. you get to choose when to have your meal, as long as it is not too close to landing. Cathay Pacific, please take note!

The funny thing is, I originally wasn't meant to be on Business Class. I bought the cheapest possible Economy fare for the two sectors to Singapore and the cheapest possible Business fare for the two return sectors. However, the airline offered to upgrade me to Business Class for just over £700. I effectively ended up buying a Business Class ticket at rock bottom prices this way! So always keep an eye on your emails after booking your Qatar Airways flight because there may be a surprise for you.

After landing at Doha, I had to ride a shuttle bus into the terminal before going through security. I then had less than an hour to board the next flight to Singapore.

Qatar Airways is part of Cathay Pacific's Oneworld alliance, which also includes American Airlines (AA), Airberlin (AB), British Airways (BA), Finnair (AY), Iberia (IB), Japan Airlines (JL), LATAM (LA/JJ), Malaysia Airlines (MH), Qantas (QF), Royal Jordanian Airlines (RJ), S7 Airlines and SriLankan Airlines (UL).
